On November 16, the "Workshop on terahertz optics and physics in quantum materials 2019" was grandly held in the 510 academic lecture hall of our college. Professor Ren Wei presided over the opening ceremony, and Academician Zhang Tongyi delivered a speech. Professor Junichiro Kono of Rice University in the United States made a theme report entitled "Ultrastrong Light-Matter and Matter-Matter Coupling in Solids", reviewing the close cooperation between Rice University and Shanghai University since 2015, especially the cooperation between the two universities in In 2018, he published a groundbreaking paper entitled "Observation of Dicke Cooperativity in Magnetic Interactions" in the internationally renowned top journal Science. Professor Kono deeply analyzed the physical mechanism and cutting-edge progress of the super-strong coupling between light and matter in solid materials. Professor Kono has done a lot of important work in the fields of terahertz waves and carbon nanomaterials, semiconductor two-dimensional electron-gas interaction, terahertz spectroscopy under strong pulsed magnetic fields, and enjoys a high reputation in the international terahertz science field. The conference was co-sponsored by Professor Cao Shixun, Professor Ren Wei, Professor Ma Guohong, and Associate Professor Jin Zuanming and was held for the first time in our university.

The conference invited Rice University in the United States, Kyoto University in Japan, University of Tokyo in Japan, Paris University of Technology in France, and the High Magnetic Field Center from the Hefei Institute of Material Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Institute of Solid State Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, East China Normal University, Fuzhou University, Shenzhen University, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, and other institutions of higher learning and scientific research institutions have participated in well-known scholars in the field of cohesion and terahertz physics. The seminar further enhanced the participants' understanding of the generation and detection of terahertz ultrashort pulses in quantum materials. Through the ultra-short terahertz pulses to regulate and study the various degrees of freedom of electrons in new quantum materials, the challenges of terahertz spintronics, orbital electronics, and finally quantum computing are achieved. These cutting-edge research developments and research results have important scientific, social, and economic significance. This seminar played a positive role in further promoting exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai University and its counterparts at home and abroad.
